The story

Abdulmajeed Alsukhan studied financial economics at California State University and economic policy at Boston University, then began his career in the Saudi Central Bank's investment department. Six months in, he quit to run a delivery service around his neighbourhood, printing the flyers and riding the bike himself, to his mother's puzzlement. In 2017 he co-founded Habli, a grocery delivery logistics company acquired that year by Nana, the Saudi online grocery platform he then helped build. At Nana he noticed that corner shops extended credit banks would not, tracking it in a handwritten book called a daftar. He set out to bring the daftar online, and in 2020 launched Tamara with Turki Bin Zarah and Abdulmohsen Albabtain. During lockdown the founders pitched 60 investors in two weeks. In April 2021 Tamara raised a $110 million Series A led by Checkout.com, and in December 2023 a $340 million Series C made it Saudi Arabia's first homegrown fintech unicorn.
