The story
Moataz Soliman co-founded Instabug with his university friend Omar Gabr. The pair met at Cairo University, where, according to the short, they built an event-planning app that most of the 60 or so Egyptian mobile companies they showed it to disliked. One feature stood out: shaking the phone to report a bug instantly. They rebuilt the company around it in 2012, amid political turmoil in Egypt, and posted a demo that drew 100 sign-ups on its first day. Instabug raised a $300,000 seed round, joined Y Combinator in 2016 and then raised $1.7 million led by Accel. Later rounds of $5 million (2020) and $46 million (2022, led by Insight Partners) followed, and the company kept a large engineering team in Cairo alongside its San Francisco base. In 2025 Instabug rebranded as Luciq, shifting towards AI agents that detect and resolve mobile app problems.
