The story

Gaurav Biswas trained as a structural engineer and spent 12 years with the consultancies Arup and AECOM, moving to the Gulf and becoming a project director on schemes such as Yas Mall in Abu Dhabi. In 2015 a friend struggling to find enough trucks to move containers to port prompted him to suggest an Uber for trucks. Within two months he had left AECOM and, with his school friend Pradeep Mallavarapu, an IT professional, started TruKKer. A first launch in India failed because customers needed trucks in many cities at once, and that version shut in July 2016. The pair restarted in the UAE later that year, where freight ran along shorter, denser routes. They found drivers were often paid a fraction of the fare and weeks late, so TruKKer promised drivers the quoted price on time, and driver referrals helped the network grow. The company has since raised over $100 million in equity, including a $100 million round led by Investcorp in 2022, and in 2025 said it connected more than 60,000 transporters with over 1,200 enterprise clients.
