Noureddine Tayebi
The story
Noureddine Tayebi studied engineering at El Harrach Polytechnic in Algeria, then earned a PhD in electrical engineering at Stanford and joined Intel's research lab in Silicon Valley in 2006. He also founded InSense, a nano motion sensor startup later bought by Mojo Vision. After some 15 years in Silicon Valley, a visit home where he saw cash weighed on a scale convinced him that turning Algeria's cash economy digital could be a large opportunity. He returned in 2016 and with El Mahdi Yettou launched Yassir in 2017, starting with ride hailing before adding food, groceries and payments, including letting drivers act as cash points. For its first couple of years Yassir was self-funded. Yassir went on to raise a $30 million Series A in 2021 and a $150 million Series B led by BOND in 2022, taking total funding to $193.25 million.
