The story
Nazım Salur came to technology late. After two decades as a serial entrepreneur in businesses ranging from office furniture to brokering industrial plants, he launched BiTaksi in 2013, an Istanbul taxi-hailing app that brought card payments to Turkish taxis for the first time. Watching cabs arrive within minutes, he asked why groceries could not arrive just as quickly. With co-founders Serkan Borançılı and Tuncay Tütek he launched Getir in July 2015, promising deliveries in around 10 minutes. To keep that promise Getir ran its own dark stores and couriers rather than relying on partners, an expensive model that, according to the short, took years to win serious funding. Demand surged during the pandemic, and in March 2022 a $768 million Series E led by Mubadala valued Getir at $11.8 billion, with operations in nine countries. Rapid expansion was followed by retrenchment: in 2024 Getir left its international markets, Mubadala took control and Salur stepped down as chief executive. In 2026 Uber agreed to buy Getir's Turkish delivery business.
